How would you decorate this kitchen?

We are buying our first home. The link below gives pictures of it. Take a look a the kitchen photo. The cabintes are very old. But I like that they havent been painted. Most old cabinets like these have been painted over a dozen times. Im not sure what to do with decorating around these, mabe a county style might be good. For example checked blue or white curtins…. I have to go with what is there. Any suggestions?

Strip off all the old varnish from the cupboards using a good stripping solution to take them back to light bare wood.
Maybe put a venetian blind up in the window and keep the roman blind. If not get some checked curtains and a pelmet but you will need to use a pelmet rail which are easy to fit.
